Berry Foster

I grew up in a small town called Petersburg, Tennessee with a population of about 500 people. I moved to Giles County, Tennessee in my junior year and finished up high school there. I got my bachelor’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University in 1986. Nine years later, I started law school at the Nashville School of Law where I met my schoolmate and now co-worker Clancy Covert. After getting my law degree in 1999, I started working in Nashville before moving to Chattanooga. Upon relocating to Chattanooga, I worked in an office with Clancy Covert and Sam Byrd where we all collaborated on cases together. Clancy, Sam, and I decided to get the gang back together and I joined our firm in October 2023.

I have personal experience with family law through my own divorce. I have also helped family members, or friends who are like family to me, go through similar experiences. My favorite part of family law is the office. I enjoy meeting clients. I like the social environment of the office and getting to work alongside lifelong friends. Although I have practiced family law for several years, I am still learning and growing my expertise because each case is unique to me.

One part of family law that is important to me is being able to practice Special Immigrant Juvenile custody work. In my work I help people go through Immigration and Customs Enforcement so they can become citizens legally. This is important to me because I get to help navigate what is often an unfamiliar area of law, and make sure clients are protected by ensuring legal procedures are properly followed.

When I am not in the office I enjoy baseball games, skiing, kayaking, and being the taxi driver for my two kids.
