I have been practicing family law since 2006. Upon graduation, I started working for the Legal Aid of East Tennessee where I was the domestic violence attorney over the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) grant. There I oversaw all the counties in east Tennessee, covering 14 rural counties from Marion County to Cocke County. I gained experience prosecuting orders to protect victims of domestic violence and abuse for a year and a half. I switched to insurance defense for about four years, and then I went out on my own to start a domestic practice representing families in divorce and child custody in 2012. After years of growing my expertise in the area I joined our firm in 2023.

I like family law because of the relative informality. Divorce and child custody are not as procedural and form driven as other types of practice. You can be more creative with resolutions because you have more moving parts with issues such as custody, property, and restraining orders. There are many more variables to sort through to get to the resolution of a case, and each resolution is personal to each family. Solving family law issues is not done by just moving a dollar sign for an equitable resolution. Family law is different from other practice areas because we can be creative in what we do. My favorite part of my job is meeting with clients, listening to them, and achieving a favorable outcome with many variables at play.

I have personal experience with family law that I find to be relatable to clients. I had guardianship of my juvenile family member for an extended period. Navigating this was very similar to foster care situations I work on in juvenile court. I have also experienced the ripple effect of divorce with family members.

I am a Chattanooga native. I graduated from Hixson High School, and I got my undergraduate degree from the University of Auburn. I attended the University of Iowa for my juris doctorate and master’s degree. Outside of work I enjoy spending time outdoors hiking, cycling, trail running, playing soccer, and chasing my kids around.
